1 How can I enter SDU?

Admission to the SDU does not differ from entering to other universities in Kazakhstan. Graduates who have a passing grade on the ENT can enter SDU.

But as the language of studying at our university is English, applicants must know English at Intermediate level. Applicant has to pass the English test while Submitting Documents.Students scored a passing grade on this test, automatically go to the first year, and

applicants who did not score the passing grade should undergo one-year preparatory course in English.

2 What subjects do you need to choose to enter the faculties of SDU? 

To enter the Faculty of Economics you should choose geography.

In order to enter Philology Faculty in to the specialty of Foreign Language like Two foreign languages, Translation Studies and International Relations you should choose English. For the Engineering faculty, student ought to choose physics. In order to enter the Kazakh faculty in to the specialties of Kazakh language and literature and journalism you have to choose the Kazakh. Students entering the Journalist specialty pass the creative exam in a form of written essays and oral interviews.

3 Can I apply for SDU with governmental scholarship? 

Yes, with governmental scholarship you can apply for all the specialties of the SDU.

4 How I can gain the internal scholarship of SDU?

Holders of the first three prizes at republic contests will receive a scholarship only for the specialty that they provide at the contests.

5 What discounts are available for students?

Discounts on tuition fees on the basis of student performance (GPA), provided by the university for one academic year (for each specialty, for each course)

• First place-50% 
• Second place-30% 
• Third place-10% 

The aforementioned discounts are available for one academic year. The student’s perfomance re-checked a year later and also the first 3 students receive these discounts. Other discounts are not available.

6 When does the application for university starts?

• Reception of documents for the competition for a scholarship starts from 1 till 30 July. 
• Reception of documents for paid studying starts from 10 till 25 August 
• Reception of documents for master’s and doctorate starts from 1 till 30 July 
• Reception of documents for the preparatory courses in English are held till August 25.

7 Is there any correspondence courses, or second degree education in SDU? 

No, there is no correspondence courses and the second higher education.

8 Are there any preparatory courses in SDU? 

Yes. In SDU we have one-year preparatory courses and the students who complete the course will be proficient at Intermediate level after one year. At summer period there are held 3-month accelerated summer courses in English (beginning in June).

9 Will applicants who finished the preparatory courses in English retake ENT? 

No. Applicants who underwent preparatory training courses in English pass their faculty entrance exam and become the students of the same faculty. Including the main four-year program and training courses, in general, they study for 5 years.

10 Teaching staff of SDU

Teaching staff of SDU is really diverse. The major part of the stuff is from Kazakhstan and Turkey. There are also teachers from Azerbaijan, USA, India and Europe

11 What is the level of employment of the SDU graduates? In what companies do they work?

Almost all graduates of the SDU are easily employed. 12 What are the requirements for the students’ transfering?

Applicants can transfer to another specialty only after the first term. Student should not have an F-grade in his GPA (unsatisfactory).

13 How can I transfer from another university to SDU?

In order to transfer from another university to SDU student must provide a transcript with grades and held disciplines. The transcript determines the difference in disciplines. Only then it is possible to say about the transferring of a student. According to educational law the difference in subjects must not exceed 5 items. Students can apply for transferring only in the end of a term. That means only in the end of the first term and summer vacation. It is prohibited to transfer in the middle of the term.

14 Can I transfer into SDU with a state scholarship?

Student can transfer into all specialties in the SDU, providing that the student applies for the same specialty. If the student transfers into another specialty he will lose his scholarship.

15 Is it possible to transfer from tuition fees to state scholarship in SDU?

Yes, it is possible. While transferring to another specialty, or while entering a foreign university students who have state scholarship lose it. So these scholarships are released, and other students with high GPA are recommended at these places. The University provides the application and evaluation of students to the Ministry of Education and Science of the RK. Decision is made by the Ministry of Education and Science of the RK

16  Is SDU a private or a public university?

SDU is a private university

17 Do we have the religious studies in SDU?

SDU as well as all Kazakhstani universities under the Ministry of Education and Science and the curriculum provides the approved curriculum of the Ministry of Education and Science. In the SDU there is no faculty of Religious Studies and there is no special religious programs.

18 What diploma is given to graduates of SDU?

SDU graduates receive a diploma approved by the RK. The Diploma is attached a certificate of higher education in English.

19 Where do SDU students pass their internship?

Students have their internship in Kazakhstan enterprises. Students with good academic performance can have their internship in Turkey. All expenses are covered by the university.

20 Does the tuition increase each year, or it does not change?

Tuition fee multiplies by 10% each academic year. This point is specified in the contract signed between the university and the student.
